Well, we have had an exciting summer. I hope the same goes for everyone else! Sorry this is long, each event should have been a seperate post!
Some of our summer events have been good, others have been little less than wonderful. .
Sometime late June we had a short family reunion. There were a lot of kids there, and it was tons of fun to see all of our relatives from our Grandma's side. Many of them were familiar, which is really nice. Some branches of the family we don't see often and it is always refreshing when I can orient myself with who is who!
School was still in session for us until the beginning of July.
Independence Day started out well. The weather was extremely pleasant, which was too bad for the lemonade stand we set up for our church. I'm certain we would have had much more of a turnout if it had been a normal, blistering hot July 4th. The real fun didn't begin until early evening when my mom received a call that Josiah had been hit in the eye with a bottle rocket. Josiah had to spend a couple weeks on bed rest for his bruised retina, and has only recently been able to return to his normal schedule. He is sure to be more careful around explosives next summer!
Later on in July, we attended and assisted VBS at Wellspring. It was an exhausting but enjoyable week. Everyone had such a great time seeing all of our friends again. Kandace had her birthday right in the middle of VBS much to her delight. Although they didn't sing Happy Birthday from the stage for her as they have in years past, she had a lot of fun. Becca spent the afternoon with her at our house.
My personal favorite part of the summer was I started viola lessons in June. I really, really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, this was my teacher's last summer teaching and this is my first Monday without lessons. I don't know if I will be able to find a new viola teacher or not. I was one of only two of her viola students. It is likely that the music store will just hire a violin teacher. Luckily, orchestra will be starting soon.
Our family has been boating two or three times this summer at my grandparents. They had a new tube the last time we were out there and we all tried it out- well not all Josiah was at home on aforementioned bed rest. Kayla and Jonny even took a turn, and, they both loved it! They are kind of the squeamish ones of the family.
Many other things happen over the summer, I've read more good books this summer than I did during the entire school year. I'm sad to say I'd forgotten how much I love reading. There are so many new discoveries waiting to be made with each turn of the page. I believe all the books I have read this summer have been non-fiction, which is really different from what I used to read. While I did read a great number of non-fiction books about various pets, animals, and writing, I'd never really been interested in science. Now it is pretty much all I read. Although, I did check out a book on mathematics. I've never seen a librarian so taken aback. It had a more impressive title than Geometry for the Clueless or Dummies.
I hope there are more posts to come soon! When the kids get back I'll have to have Kandace post about Backyard Bible Club.
